If you're a single woman in your 20's or 30's, you must read The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing. Salon has a great interview with the author, Melissa Bank:
Finding love is compelling, and connecting is compelling, and the difficulties of connecting to other people are compelling, but the idea that a man is going to save your life is cuckoo.
I'm going to have to track down some of her short stories in various magazines.

At BookPeople yesterday, I saw Aqua Erotica: 18 Stories for a Steamy Bath in the bestsellers section and I couldn't resist. I mean, it's waterproof, even! I've only read the first two stories so far, but they've been as steamy as I could hope for.

Off books and onto politics, I've given out two SUV tickets so far. Both Suburbans. One of these days, I'll stay in my car to wait til the driver gets back so I can see their reaction.

The Bean Trees is amazing. I'll definitely have to check out Poisonwood Bible one of these days. (If only I can find a paperback copy without an Oprah Book Club insignia. I hate those things.)

Don't bother with Little Green Men. The author tries way too hard to be witty and he just ain't.

Oh and on the big screen, don't miss Finding Forrester. I wanted to see Cast Away but it was sold out, so I got "stuck" seeing Finding Forrester. I'm glad I did. It made me want to start writing again, the same way A Widow for One Year did.

Onward, mad taggers! I'm a bit leary of being charged with a misdemeanor, though, so I think I might join the SUV ticket campaign.
